Description

A classic mid-century cocktail dress, this navy blue shantung frock from the late 1950s or early 1960s has an hourglass fit with a fabulous, rose-trimmed satin waist panel! The wide V-neck bodice features cap sleeves and darts for shaping. The satin panel (in front only) has fringed “ties” to create the illusion of a waist sash. The narrow skirt has darts to shape the waist and hips, and a small kick pleat at the back hem. A metal zipper closes the dress at the center back. The lightweight rayon (or rayon and acetate blend) shantung fabric is fully lined with rayon taffeta, which has faded from age as navy blue vintage fabric is often wont to do (see photo of lining), as has the acetate satin waist panel. I don’t mind this contrast in color between the waist panel and the rest of the dress, but it is worth noting. The satin fabric rose had a bit of wear to its top edge, which I have since mended. There is also a bit of fading to the inner edges of the underarms (see photo). This true vintage 1950s-60s cocktail dress is in good condition, sturdy and wearable, recently dry-cleaned, with no other issues to note.
