A very lightweight, silky slub-textured rayon, navy blue skirt suit from the 1950s, this 2-piece set will be perfect for spring and summer! The hip-length, peplum jacket has a fitted waist shaped by darts, medium-sized shoulder pads, short cuffed sleeves, and covered buttons. The sleeves, pointed collar, and 2 hip pockets are all trimmed with narrow bands of shiny blue rayon satin. The pencil skirt fastens with a metal side seam zipper and waistband button. Both pieces of the suit are unlined. In good, sturdy and wearable condition, the suit has several flaws, likely to be somewhat less visible when it is worn than under my bright photography lighting. Stored on a wooden suit hanger for many years, the jacket and skirt both show discoloration from the hanger (on the inside of the jacket shoulders and collar—not the outside—and on each side of the back waistband of the skirt). This is why you shouldn’t store vintage textiles for the long term on a finished wooden hanger! Neither of these 2 discolored areas will be seen when the suit is worn. The other issue to note is some greenish fading to the underarms. The suit has been freshly dry-cleaned and has no odors, but this fading is somewhat visible, particularly if you lift your arms high. If you don’t mind a few issues, this navy blue rayon 1950s suit has plenty of wear left in it, and the peplum style is a vintage classic!
