Description

A versatile and comfy cotton day dress from the early 1950s, this full-skirted navy blue frock features accents in blue and white checked gingham. These include a wide collar and square inset at the neckline, pointed cuffs finishing the cap sleeves, and a pleated center-front gingham insert in the skirt. The double-breasted bodice design has 1 row of functional buttons, while the other row is decorative. The dress also fastens with a metal zipper at the side seam. The skirt has wide flat pleats in front only, and 2 slit pockets at the hips. Thread belt loops are present, but no belt. Vertical darts shape the bodice above the fitted waist seam. The lightweight, plain weave cotton fabric is unlined.

In very good condition, the dress has 1 mend in the center front gingham skirt panel which is pretty well hidden by the pleating when worn (see close-up photo). There are also a few seams that show signs of earlier repairs, but are sturdy. This true vintage 1950s dress will be best for a tall or regular size, rather than a petite, since it is fairly long-waisted (see back of neck to waist seam measurement, below). My last photo shows the dress unclipped from the mannequin, to give a better idea of actual size.
