Description

One of my favorite mid-century modern novelty prints of all time! This green, orange, white, and black spirals print cotton 1950s halter dress and bolero set seems inspired by abstract modern art of the era. It features a cropped, cap-sleeve jacket over a pale lime green fitted halter-neck bodice, and a full skirt in the same abstract print as the bolero. The sweetheart bodice has gathers at the center front to shape the bust. The halter strap fastens in back with hooks and eyes. The dress zips closed with a metal zipper in back. The 2 lightweight, plain weave cotton fabrics are unlined, except for matching lime cotton interfacing around the neckline in front and back (which makes this area appear darker in some of my photos--which it is not--due to the double layer of fabric).

The dress is slightly long-waisted, a bit longer at the back of the bodice than in the front. It will therefore fit better for a regular or tall torso, rather than a petite or short-waisted person. In very good condition, the dress has 2 issues to note: a small section of repair stitching near the bottom of the zipper (see last photo), and some subtle wash-fading to the halter strap and back of bodice, from normal wear and laundering. The print fabric on the skirt section of the dress is a bit lighter in shade than the bolero, for the same reason. It must have been worn/washed more often than the jacket. This fabulous 1950s novelty print cotton halter sundress is shown here with an added crinoline underneath, which is not included.

  • Bust: 34 inches flat with a moderate amount of cup room. Best fit for approx. 32B-C or 34A-B, at max.
  • Waist: 26 inches flat, to fit 25 max.
  • Hips: 76 inches flat (full).
  • Length: approx. 44 inches from back of neck to hem.
  • Bodice length: approx. 16.25 inches from back of neck to waist seam.
  • Underarm to waist seam: 8.25 inches.
  • Waist to hem length: 28 inches.
  • Sweep/width at hem: 112 inches total (56 flat, doubled).

JACKET

  • Length: 12.25 inches from back of neck to bolero hem.
  • Sleeve length: approx. 2.5 inches.
  • Sleeve opening: 14 inches flat, total.
