Description

A 70s cardigan or bolero jacket, this creamy off-white and chocolate brown jersey knit cutie features a cute squares print and contrasting striped trim in a heavier ribbed knit. The cardigan or jacket buttons closed in front at the wide, ribbed waistband, below the deep V-neckline. The long sleeves are slightly gathered into more ribbed trim at the cuffs. The lightweight, slinky jersey knit and the ribbed knit trim fabrics are both labeled as 100% Arnel. Arnel is the trade name of triacetate, a synthetic plant-based fiber, derived from cellulose, first created in 1955. It has similarities in feel and functionality to polyester, but is chemically different. The cropped jacket or cardigan is unlined and will be great for layering from spring to fall—although the synthetic fabric may be too warm for the hottest summer months.

It is in very good condition, with a bit of color fade to the squares print from age, and a small, faint mark on the outside of the left sleeve (see photo). This 1970s piece draws inspiration from similar cropped, sporty tops and jackets of the 1930s, but it is easy care and washable—always a plus! Both fabric are somewhat stretchy, but not as stretchy as modern knitwear—see my detailed measurements for more info about size range and fit.
