This lemon yellow unisex souvenir t-shirt from 1983 commemorates the US space shuttle mission which included the first female American in space. “STS-7 was NASA's seventh Space Shuttle mission, and the second mission for the Space Shuttle Challenger…The shuttle launched from Kennedy Space Center on June 18, 1983, and landed at Edwards Air Force Base on June 24, 1983”. “When the Space Shuttle Challenger lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center...Ride became the first American woman to fly in space, and the third woman overall. Ride’s first space flight certainly inspired the linked male and female symbols used in the totally 80s disco outer space neon design of the image on the back of the t-shirt. The front of the shirt features a smaller, circular design with the names of the astronauts who flew on the mission. The semi-sheer yellow jersey knit fabric of the t-shirt is 50/50 cotton and polyester, very soft and lightweight—that classic vintage tee feel! The t-shirt is labeled as a size small, or 34 to 36 inch chest, but please see the measurements for more details about fit. It is in very good condition, with a few tiny and hard to see light brown marks on the front near the waist and a very faint reddish mark on the right sleeve (see photos). Neither issue is likely to be noticed when the t-shirt is worn. Those of us old enough to remember the Challenger space shuttle disaster in 1986 may have forgotten the high hopes and positivity that attended the shuttle’s earlier missions, like this one. This authentic vintage 80s souvenir t-shirt is a nice reminder of that, as well as just having a really cool design!
