Description
This mid-1960s cotton sundress shows off the “retro” trend of the time: a dropped-waist silhouette, inspired by 60s appreciation for earlier, 1920s styles. The mid-weight, plain weave cotton fabric is a stylized and kinetic, elongated paisley print in turquoise, lime and olive green, lavender, and black. Narrow straps hold up the straight neckline. The bodice is gently fitted, with diagonal and vertical darts to shape the bust and waist area so that it will skim over the body’s curves. A fitted seam at the dropped waist or high hips is trimmed with narrow piping. Below, the skirt opens into a more full shape. It is gathered into the high hip seam at the back and sides, and has a large inverted pleat set off-center in front.
The dress is unlined and fastens with a metal zipper at the center back. It is in very good, near excellent condition. The only issue is some slightly rough stitching to repair the attachment of the shoulder straps; they may have been altered by the original owner (see close-up photo). The bust area may also have been altered/taken in, since there are small darts tacked down at the upper part of the cup area. These could be removed, if you need a bit more room in the bust. My last photo shows the dress unclipped from the mannequin, since it is a bit too large for her. I love the bright, colorful print on this cute 1960s sundress!
