Description
This “New York Creation” pillbox-style 1940s tilt hat in dark brown felt features a chin-length veil and large satin bow trim. Designed to sit tilted back on the head as shown, to frame the face beautifully! The indented dark brown crown has a slightly more squared shape at the front, but is more rounded in back where it hugs the back of the head. The copper-brown rayon satin ribbon is sewn on in a pleated V shape from the top front to the lower edges of the hat on each side. A large bow in the same ribbon trims the center back edge.
The soft fur felt crown is unlined, aside from a grosgrain ribbon inner band. Labeled a size 23, the hat should fit a more medium size modern head—not as small as most vintage hats. In very good condition, this mid 1940s ladies’ tilt hat has one small break in the brown veiling, and a bit of discoloration to one end of the satin bow (see close-up photos). It is quite wearable, with no other issues to note.
