Description

If you’ve ever wondered where Thierry Mugler got the inspiration for some of his strong-shouldered 80s suits and jackets, look no further than this absolutely epic 1940s black cocktail dress! The large, padded square shoulders, tapered dolman sleeves and nipped-in waist are all classic 1940s details, but this femme-fatale-worthy dress has an added stylistic bonus: check out the double-draped panels adorning the front of the skirt! Pleated at the waist/top end and shirred where they meet the hem, the skirt panels cross over each other at about hip level. Underneath the draped panels is a second layer that is relatively straight, to match the back half of the skirt. The dramatic, bracelet-length sleeves are also gathered at the tops of the shoulders, before their fullness tapers into narrower cuffs. The stand collar closes with a single hook, above a deep keyhole opening. Made of rayon crepe, the dress is unlined, and closes with a side seam metal zipper. This true vintage late 1940s dress is in near excellent condition. It has the tiniest bit of iron shine on the crepe fabric of the skirt underlayer near the front hem, not seen when worn since it is hidden under the draped panels. The dress has been freshly drycleaned and is ready to wear, with no other issues to note.
