Paganne print jersey 1970s maxi dress pink purple floral op art S-M

In the 1960s and 70s, Gene Berk designed gorgeous, Pucci-style prints for his label Paganne. His intricate and unique prints went through a many-step process before becoming finished garments that were often made of slinky nylon knit jersey, like this early 70s maxi dress. It features checkered squares and stylized chrysanthemums in color blocks of bright pink, lilac, peach, and white. The print is beautifully utilized to follow the lines of the dress. The squares motif is used on the wide shoulder yoke on the front bodice, on the high stand collar, at the waist, and on the lower portion of the full-length skirt. The floral pattern flows diagonally across the front and back of the skirt (perfectly pattern-matched on each side of the zipper!), as well as down each long sleeve. Tiny gathers below the front shoulder yoke and the waist seam add a bit of fullness through the bust and hips. The dress waist is either slightly dropped, or it will fit best for a taller person, with the waist seam sitting about 1 inch below the typical natural waist (see measurements). The nearly-straight skirt has a high slit at the right side of the hem, for ease of walking.

The lightweight nylon jersey knit is unlined. The fabric has some stretch to it, and the waist seam has elastic inside, for an easy fit (see measurements). The dress fastens with a nylon zipper and small hooks on the collar, at the center back. My last photo shows the dress unclipped from the mannequin, to give a better idea of its actual size. This true vintage, early 70s op-art floral print maxi dress by Paganne is elegantly psychedelic, and in excellent condition with no issues to note.
