The classic LBD for cocktail or evening wear, this hourglass-shaped, late 1950s or early 1960s black velveteen dress has shiny, acetate satin “lacing” trimming its fitted waist.  The short-sleeved boatneck bodice has bust darts for shaping. Vertical darts below the waist seam shape the hips of the narrow, pencil-style skirt. I believe that the dress has been shortened, based on the fact that the hem is a very generous 4.5 inches. At the back slit in the skirt hem, you can see some stitching where it has been altered when the dress was shortened. The dress fastens in back with a metal zipper. It is lined in the bodice and in upper-back section of the skirt/seat area with black rayon taffeta. The soft rayon velveteen fabric is a true black, although I have lightened it a bit in some photos, to better show details. In very good condition, this 1950s-60s cocktail dress has no issues to note, other than the alteration at the hem.
