Description
This late 1940s ladies’ suit jacket in a somewhat unusual, cardigan style is made of dove gray and vanilla cream shadow plaid wool. The crisp, lightweight fabric makes this the perfect jacket for early fall layering. Of course, it will also look lovely worn as a suit, paired with a gray pencil skirt or trousers. The jacket shoulders have large shoulder pads, and vertical pleats the front. Darts shape the waist. The straight hem ends at about high-hip length. Gray-green buttons close the jacket from its V-neckline to the hem. Heather gray trim forms the button placket and also edges the 2 curved pockets, just below the waist. The bracelet-length sleeves have small, turned-up cuffs.
The jacket is fully lined with mauve rayon crepe, which has one mend, and minor discoloration at the underarms (seen on lining layer only—with no odors). There is one small moth munch in the left sleeve. The outer wool fabric has some discoloration around the left pocket opening, which I was unable to completely remove, even after both dry-cleaning and spot-treating/soaking. It does look a lot better than originally, though! See photos for details of these issues.
I would describe this true vintage 1940s jacket as in good, sturdy, and totally wearable condition. It held up well for both dry-cleaning and hand-laundering, which is a good sign that it has plenty of life left to live!
