This bright gold metallic 1960s cocktail dress may have simple lines, but its bold sparkle and hourglass shape will make quite an impact! The round, high-necked bodice has elbow-length sleeves and vertical seaming from bust to hips for shaping. The knee-length skirt is just slightly flared from hips to hem, to allow for ease of walking without a slit or kick pleat. The straight sleeves have darts at the inside of the elbows, to make it easier to bend your arms—a nice detail! The dress fastens with a metal zipper at the center back, and it is lined with peach acetate taffeta. The gold metallic fabric is medium-weight, probably a blend of acetate and shiny mylar (or acetate, cotton and mylar). Although it may have been home sewn, this stunning 1960s gold dress is well constructed, and it is in excellent condition. My last photo shows the dress unpinned from the mannequin, to give a better idea of its actual size and shape. It is proportionally a bit larger at the hips than at the bust –see measurements for details about fit.
