Dating from the late 1950s or early 1960s, this envelope clutch evening bag in bright metallic gold lamé fabric by Schiaparelli is lined with “shocking pink” satin—of course! The purse opening is trimmed with a row of short black fringe, rather like eyelashes, which is just so Schiaparelli. The bag has no fastenings, folding over itself to close. The gold and pink fabrics and the black fringe are all rayon or rayon blend, I believe. According to the fabulous Vintage Fashion Guild Label Resource, Schiaparelli labels like this one were used after the designer shuttered her atelier in 1954, but continued to license her name for use on clothing and accessory items. This circa early 1960s gold metallic fabric Schiaparelli clutch bag is in very good, near excellent condition, with a tiny bit of wear to the ends of the fringe strands from gentle use. This mid-century evening bag would be great for traveling with, since it is flat and lightweight!
