This fantastic late 1930s or early 1940s hat in dark chocolate brown felt has a wide brim trimmed with fur, and an unusual crown. The peaked crown with its tiny bow trim gives the hat a slightly elfin or pixie vibe. It has sculptural folds blocked into the front and sides; the back of the crown has a flat, diagonal shape where it meets the brim. The slightly down-turned, round brim frames the face like a halo in front. The brim is widest at the center front, shrinking until it almost disappears at the center back of the hat. The brim’s fur trim varies in color from dark brown to taupe. It is soft and fluffy, possibly marmot fur--although I am not a vintage fur expert. The dark brown fur felt body of the hat is soft and flexible, and unlined. There is a skinny elastic band attached inside the hat that would have helped to hold the small, “doll hat” style crown on the head, but it is no longer stretchy. This could easily be replaced with a modern equivalent. In excellent condition other than this stretched elastic band, this dramatic, wide-brimmed 1930s-40s hat has no other issues to note.
