Description
This pair of 1950s white nylon tap pants or ladies’ underwear by Vanity Fair is deadstock (unworn), with its original hangtag still attached. The wide legs of the panty are trimmed with sheer white nylon mesh, embroidered with tiny flowers and a scalloped design. The sheer hem of the tap pant has a single scalloped pintuck to echo this embroidered pattern—such a cute little detail!
The 40-denier tricot fabric of the underwear is a semi-sheer, lightweight nylon knit with a bit of give to it, although it is not truly stretchy. The wide gusset has a center seam and is double-layered using the same tricot knit. The high waist has a narrow band of elastic that will allow for a bit of range in fit (see detailed measurements, below). The tap pant is designed for a loose fit, aside from the waist.
In mint condition, this true vintage tap pant or wide-leg nylon panty has no issues to note. I would recommend removing the printed inner paper label before wearing or laundering the tap pant, to avoid any dye transfer. It is labeled a 50s size medium, but it will fit more like a modern size extra small to small.
